Our Team

The Dance Academy of Mexico (DAOM) specializes in the instruction of traditional Mexican folkloric dances from the various states of Mexico as well as pre-Hispanic dances.  We opened our doors on September 1, 2010.

In every class, we teach the steps, choreographies, movements and techniques. We rehearse with the whole class – beginners and advanced students. This system encourages teamwork and leadership, which are essential to perfect group choreographies and to succeed in life. Perseverance and commitment are also important. You must have patience and not give up. Everyone dancing with us today was a beginner when they joined us.

We offer many opportunities to travel within the US and abroad through our membership with the CIOFF. The International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Art(CIOFF®, in French, Conseil international des organisations de festivals de folklore et d'arts traditionnels), is an International nongovernmental organization (NGO) in formal consultative relation with and accredited by UNESCO.  Created in 1970, the duty of CIOFF® is safeguarding, promotion and diffusion of traditional culture and folklore.  In more than 90 countries, CIOFF® National Sections are umbrella organizations for national and regional associations of traditional culture, folklore and folk arts festivals, as well as intangible heritage specialists.

Come and see for yourself!

Culture and Diversity through the Arts

Marina Croft is the teacher/director/owner of DAOM. Marina has been dancing for more than 30 years. She has been teaching the steps and choreographies for folkloric dance groups for more than 14 years.

Jesus Sanchez is an instructor. Jesus has been a dancer for more than 30 years. He has been working with us since September 2014.

Itahiza Tamez is our administrator. Itahiza has been working with us since September 2015.

For you to master the folkloric dance steps and routines it may take hours, days, weeks, months and, most likely, years of practice. But the sense of accomplishment you will get when your body knows what to do without thinking about it, when you know you can project yourself to others through dance moves, and when you learn the pride and richness of your heritage…it is simply magnificent. It changes your life. It is what I feel so passionate about and what I hope to teach to my students. Marina Croft
